12 Tips for Starting Your Kick-A** Health and Wellness Blog

12 Tips for Starting Your Kick-A** Health and Wellness Blog

Did you know that 77% of internet users regularly read blog posts? Or that 70% of consumers prefer blogs to advertising to learn about companies?

While blogging is a great marketing strategy, especially for long-term growth, starting a blog may seem like a daunting task. I’ve put together some basic how-to ideas that I’ve learned along the way to help get you started.

1. Identify Your Audience

  • In order to reach your audience, you first have to have an idea of who your audience is. Is your audience fitness enthusiasts, busy professionals, moms, or people with specific problems that could benefit from your help and expertise?

  • Understanding their challenges, interests, and goals related to your expert area of health and wellness will help you come up with topics to write about.

2. Choose a Relevant Topic

  • Focus on topics that address what your ideal client wants to learn about or is interested in. If you are a personal trainer you might try  "5 Tips for a Better Workout" or "How to Start a Sustainable Fitness Routine.”

  • Google ranks blogs by value, so use personal stories, lessons, or tips. The more value your blog post has to your target audience, the better ranking you will have in a Google search. Use keyword research tools such as Google Trends to find popular search terms in your wellness niche.

3. Create an Engaging Headline

  • According to Hostinger Tutorials, 8 out of 10 people will read your headline, but only 2 will click through to read your article.

  • The headline should promise value or a solution to a particular problem such as "10 Best Superfoods to Boost Your Energy Naturally” or “5 Easy Yoga Moves for Less Back Pain.”

  • Odd-numbered headlines perform better than their even-numbered counterparts.

4. Start with a Strong Hook

  • Your strong headline brought them to your blog, now you need to keep their interest long enough to read your post. Begin with a relatable question, surprising statistic, or compelling anecdote to draw readers in.

5. Provide Value

  • Offer tips that are easy enough for anyone to do, have science-backed insights, or step-by-step guides.

  • Don’t try to impress with huge industry terms. Instead, speak on a more personal, but still professional level.

  • The more value your blog article has to offer, the better your ranking.

6. Give it Your Personal Touch

  • Writing about your personal experiences, showing client success examples, or giving expert advice (always within your scope of practice) will build trust with your readers.

  • Posting 3 related blog posts on a particular subject can bring better results than a bunch of random ones.

7. Your Post Should Be Easy to Read

  • The majority of people will only scan an article, not read every word. So use headings, subheadings, bullet points, and short paragraphs to break up text.

  • Adding visuals like images, infographics, or videos will enhance the reader's experience and will also help with your ranking.

8. Incorporate SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

  • You cannot keyword bomb your article and expect Google to be happy about it. They must appear naturally in the title, headings, and body.

  • Optimize your meta descriptions and alt tags for images from your keyword searches.

  • Writing original articles may generate backlinks to other sites that want to be connected to your content because it adds value to them. Also include internal links to other sites that are relevant to your article.

9. End with a Call to Action (CTA)

  • Encourage readers to take the next step, like subscribing to your newsletter, booking a consultation call, or following you on social media.

10. Edit and Proofread

  • Having content that is not as error free as possible will not build trust or authority. Ensure your content is free from errors and flows well.

  • Professional editing is worth its weight in gold. Your work needs to be professional and polished if you are to be regarded as an expert in your field.

11. Promote Your Blog

  • Share your post on social media, email newsletters, and wellness forums to reach a wider audience. Just remember that the life span of a post on social media is very short, so don’t just post it once and be done.

  • Using a service like Tailwind or Buffer to schedule your posts is a huge timesaver. You can get all your posts set up in a day or two then schedule them to go out for the next month.

12. How Often to Post

  • Data shows that the newer your website, the more often you will have to post quality blog posts. The faster your industry changes, the more often you will have to post so Google can see your website is active and current.

  • Google bots visit active sites more often. If you only post infrequently, it may take much longer for the bots to find you so you don’t get indexed as quickly. Getting indexed increases your online visibility.

  • You can revamp older posts rather than creating new ones each time.

Here at Stone Proofs and Edits LLC we offer social media packages so you can ensure your posts will always be professionally polished and ready for publishing.
